Medieval Ring Engraved With Love Motto Found In UK By Metal Detectorist

In an ordinary field in the United Kingdom, a metal detectorist made an exciting discovery dating back to the Middle Ages. According to the BBC , the detectorist discovered a gold mediaeval ring engraved with a beautiful declaration of love in an ordinary field in North Essex. "Je desir vous Ceruir," reads the ring in French. It translates to "I desire to serve you," said historian Lori Rogerson. According to the outlet , the ring was found within 50 meters of a Tudor silver-gilt hooked tag by the same detectorist near Frinton, Essex. Ms Rogerson, who is the county's finds liaison officer, believes that both items were probably lost at the same time. The gold ring was found in a cracked condition and is pretty small, with a diameter of merely 9.4 millimetres, and a width of 3.9 millimetres. Ms Rogerson said that despite being so "tiny it only fits my little finger," it was probably worn by a man. "At this period rings were worn on all the joints...

Aus Star Reacts As Storm Sees Hoarding Fall, Fans Run For Cover In Lucknow

Strong winds caused several hoardings to fall from the roof of the Ekana Stadium on to the seats below during the World Cup match between Australia and Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Monday. After rain stopped play for a bit, there was a dust storm and heavy winds led to several iron angles with branding material from the roof falling on people sitting at the lower levels. The situation could have turned worse, but luckily, the stands were relatively empty. It did, however, cause panic among those who were watching the game as the public announcement asked spectators to move to safety of the upper decks. Asked about the incident after the match, Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa , one of the star performers of the game with figures of 4/47, said, "Never been a part of that, never seen something like that. But there was no one hurt hopefully. There was a metal pole coming down I've never seen anything like that." By the time the second innings began the security had moved all s...

Opinion: Daily Despatch: The Day War Almost Broke Out On Israel's Northern Border

From the frontlines of the Israel-Palestine war, NDTV brings you daily despatches by journalist Allan Sorensen, Middle East Correspondent for Danish newspaper Kristeligt Dagblad, giving insights and gripping first-hand accounts from the war-torn region. One anti-tank missile after the other was fired from Lebanon into Israel on Sunday. In at least six such attacks two Israeli soldiers were killed, and several others wounded. On Sunday afternoon it seemed as if an all-out war between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah was more likely than an Israeli land invasion of Gaza. Helicopters, drones, and fighter jets patrolled the clouded skies above the northern border of Israel, while the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of all villages within two kilometers of the Lebanese border.  The headquarters of the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon in the coastal town of Naqoura was hit by a rocket during the exchange of fire and escalation between Israel and Hezbollah. None were ...

"Wash Babies' Blood Off Hands": Israel Envoy To UN Official Over Iran Meet

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan today blasted some of its officials on X, formerly Twitter, and "severed ties" with one who shook hands with a minister of Iran. He accused the United Nations of "living under a rock" and having "blood on its hands". "The UN's support for and legitimization of genocidal terrorists is a threat to civilization!" he wrote in one of his posts. What set the Ambassador off was apparently a post by Martin Griffiths, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. "The specter of death is hanging over #Gaza. With no water, no power, no food and no medicine, thousands will die. Plain and simple," Mr Griffiths had posted. The comment reflected the UN stance on Israel's warning to people in North Gaza to move south ahead of a widely expected ground attack by the Israeli forces. "Have you been living under a rock? Your double standards tr...
